Theodore
Trevens, MBA, Senior Consultant and Co-Founder - Mr. Trevens
has over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, including
senior management positions with foundations and direct service
organizations. He holds an MBA from Boston College and is specifically
interested helping nonprofits to adapt private sector methods
to improve their effectiveness. Mr. Trevens is an expert in strategic
planning, financial management, board development, business plan
development, fundraising and grants administration, and has trained
nonprofit professionals in all of these areas. He has helped to
design or improve the managerial structure and systems of over
30 organizations that continue to grow as a result of his initial
input. Mr. Trevens has specifically served as the lead financial
administrator on over 10 state and federal grants, and trained
nonprofit organizations working with the Massachusetts Department
of Public Health in efficient and proper billing procedures. As
Operations Manager for MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, a national
grantmaker, Mr. Trevens provided oversight and leadership for
fundraising efforts, including management of a $2 million annual
individual donation campaign which involved recruiting, processing
and acknowledging over 50,000 individual contributions per year.
At MAZON Mr. Trevens also implemented critical upgrades to the
request for proposal (RFP) process, evaluated nonprofit programs
for funding, and managed fiscal operations including management
and distribution of funds, accounting and financial reporting.
During Mr. Trevens' tenure MAZON's operating expenses were lowered
by over 9% and grants distribution grew from $1.2 million to $1.75
million. His direct service and management experience includes
extensive work in the areas of AIDS/HIV, homelessness, addiction,
domestic violence, youth and children's services and emergency
relief operations including coordination of emergency responses
to the Los Angeles riots of 1992, and to the Somalian famine and
Rwandan massacres in the early 1990s. Mr. Trevens currently serves
on the board of several Boston-based nonprofits and foundations.

Liliana
Riva Clement, MPH, Senior Consultant - Ms. Clement has over
15 years experience working for public health and nonprofit organizations.
She holds an MPH from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
Ms. Clement is expert in the areas of program design and evaluation,
grantwriting with particular expertise in writing state and federal
government grants, business plan development, and community mobilization.
Ms. Clement's work has included serving as an outside evaluator
to government-sponsored health programs with multi-million dollar
budgets. She has developed and implemented health programs targeted
to underserved minority populations, including work in the inner
cities, and internationally in urban and remote, rural areas of
Africa and Latin America. Ms. Clement's work has focused on the
leading public health issues that are faced globally, including
HIV/AIDS, diabetes, nutrition, primary health care, maternal health,
and cancer. She has worked successfully with Deans, Department Chairs,
and well-known scientific and community leaders. She is recognized
for her skill in building national, regional and local partnerships
of health organizations and across the public- private sector divide.
Ms. Clement served as part of a national panel of experts convened
by the federal Office of Community Service for their "21st
Century Model for Addressing Poverty" working group. Ms. Clement's
work has also included basic science research: she served as Director
of a laboratory for an NIH-funded HIV/AIDS research program, and
established the quality of an international system of vitamin A
laboratories for Johns Hopkins. Ms. Clement is fluent in Spanish,
serves on the board of several nonprofits and is advocate for the
Latino population in her Jamaica Plain neighborhood.

Jinna Halperin, Staff Consultant – Jinna
Halperin has over ten years of experience working with international
and domestic non-profit organizations. She has worked on
an array of public health, human rights, environmental, social
justice international development and public policy issues, including
torture and sexual violence; water rights; access to health care;
parent education and services; reproductive health, family planning
and HIV/AIDS prevention, education and advocacy; environmental
conservation, and community outreach and education on a
variety of public health issues. Jinna's work has encompassed
community-based participatory research, program planning and
management, data collection and analysis, monitoring and evaluation,
advocacy, communications, public policy and development. She
has a successful grant writing track record that includes both
private foundations and government grants. Jinna has a
Master's degree in public health from Boston University and certificates
in health and human rights, managing disasters and complex humanitarian
emergencies, and healthcare in developing countries. She
has a Bachelor's degree from Beloit College in anthropology and
African studies and is proficient in French. Jinna is a
socially, politically and environmentally conscious individual,
who is committed to addressing grave injustices. |

Anna Fravel, Staff Consultant – is a qualified attorney in the United Kingdom and California who has lived and worked in four different countries. After working for over 10 years in international law firms and large financial companies, she transitioned to the not-for-profit sector after obtaining a Professional Certificate in Fund Raising from Boston University and serving as DSA’s first Nonprofit Executive Fellow. Anna specializes in fund raising strategy and Board governance. She has designed and implemented successful annual appeals, launched leadership gift clubs and corporate sponsorship opportunities. Her legal and compliance background greatly complements her Board governance work. After using her expertise to research best practices for Non profit Boards, Anna greatly contributed to DSA’s Non Profit Board Guide: A Practical Toolkit to Developing a Strong Board. This guide is available to DSA’s clients to help them develop and retain an effective Non Profit Board. She received her B.A. from the London School of Economics and her English JD equivalent degree from the College of Law in London. Anna is also a member of the Women In Development group based in Boston. |

Anna Byun, Senior Designer -
Ms. Byun has over 10 years of experience as a print and web designer,
and has worked as a Graphic Designer for both nonprofit and for-profit
organizations. She has worked closely with a number of DSA's clients
to design logos, create and maintain websites,
and promote fundraisers. Ms. Byun received her BA in Fine
Arts from Wellesley College. |

Jeffrey Portnoy, Director of Technology Services
and Co-Founder - Mr. Portnoy has over 10 years of experience
providing computer and technical support and training to nonprofit
and for-profit organizations, and has served as the Vice President
of a for-profit technology business. Mr. Portnoy has provided
services to over 100 organizations. He has an engineering degree
from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is certified as a Novell,
Microsoft and Cisco Network Engineer. |

Amy
Beth McClellan, Esq., Legal Expert - Ms. McClellan is a practicing
attorney whose work focuses on nonprofit organizations. She has
served as a director for several nonprofits and has provided direct
services to the elder, welfare, and domestic violence populations.
Ms. McClellan has assisted nonprofits with every aspect of their
legal services including 501(C)(3) filings, for over 15 years. |
